If

Written By Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling’s “If” connects to persistence because the speaker relays the importance of working hard even when faced with adversity will make you a man. The speaker stresses the power of “trust[ing] yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too”(3-4). Persistence is having a goal and doing everything you can to accomplish and when you hit a road bump reassess your point of view and adjust your plan. When you are trying to accomplish a goal it is common for people to doubt you. There is real value behind ignoring people's doubts and then profiting from it. Sometimes when people ignore you, you can come back stronger and hit them when they least expect it. Success is not always a clear path sometimes “you can meet with triumph and disaster”(11). In life, you will have moments when you are so close to being on top of the world but still living in disaster. No matter how hard you work there will be people trying to knock you down. Facing adversity and then overcoming it is an important step through life.
